ToffeeLinks 23/01/2012: Sadness Reigns Supreme

Photo

I haven't been writing these for a while mainly because looking at any Everton related news has just been depressing. But for some reason, I decided to bring it back up so readers could read about transfers that won't be happening, news about displeased players, problems with management, and fan uprisings.

Everton - Howard surpasses Neville record
On Saturday Everton Keeper Tim Howard surpassed Neville Southall for number of appearances in goal for Everton during the Premier League era.

Everton Cast Eye Over Out-of-Favour Ajax Striker Mounir El Hamdaoui

Alessio Cerci on brink of Everton move | Mail Online

Toffeelinks – The trying not to get excited about an Everton takeover edition

Is Brek Shea Goodison bound?

Well, well, well, I thought all the Jain Group hysteria had sent the web into Everton take-over overdrive. But Sunday’s developments have well and truly broken the internet, well the Everton bits of it anyway.

Shall we delve in and have a look? Yes, lets...

ToffeeLink Quick Hits: Chamakh, Landon Donovan, and Other Rumors

There's a couple of rumors going around about possible additions to the club. I don't have any reason to believe any of them, but I'll throw them out here just so everyone's in the loop.

Everton eye Los Angeles Galaxy star Landon Donovan loan - ESPN Soccernet
"It's something we will probably try and look to see if there's an interest," revealed Moyes. "[Donovan] was popular here, and we could do with some speed and width on the right. It wouldn't be something we'd be against, that's for sure. It's unrealistic to sign him on a permanent deal, though."

--- I don't see this happening. It doesn't really help Donovan or the Galaxy. I think in the future, if we miraculously have money, then we can start to believe the Donovan switch rumors and not the loan rumors.

Sevilla hope to pip Everton to Arsenal striker Chamakh by making January swoop for misfit | Mail Online
Sevilla are ready to make a January move for Arsenal misfit Marouane Chamakh. Everton are also interested but would be more likely to request a loan.

-- We definitely won't be able to get Chamakh on loan. That seems ridiculous. Arsenal don't really have depth at striker. If anything they would sell him to buy another striker, but definitely wouldn't loan him out. Just doesn't make sense.

Arsenal Plan Another Raid on Everton for £15m Midfield Star
--The amount is now £15million surrounding Fellaini.

Everton - Defoe linked with Everton
--This rumor surfaced a little while a go, but it's just another striker that we probably won't get because we still have no money. And we just got James McFadden.

ToffeeLinks 04/10/11: Rumors on Silva Leaving and a New Signing

The last couple of weeks, there have been very little news (that we cared about anyway) surrounding Everton. That has finally changed with some rumors and news that can really affect the future of Everton, which calls for another edition of ToffeeLinks.

Silva open to offers | Sky Sports
Joao Silva is determined to find regular football and admits he would be willing to leave Everton in order to get games.

** Silva doesn't seem too happy about his lack of first team football at Everton. The rumors are that benfica are ready to swoop him and snatch him up. I don't want to lose him. He definitely has tons of talent and has shown with his scoring rate while on loan. He is still young and needs to wait for the right time. He will get his chance if he is patient. We don't have a plethora of strikers, so I feel it would make more sense for him to stay rather than go to a club like Benfica, where he would be closer to home, but they already have very strong strikers in Oscar Cardozo and Javier Saviola and young/up and coming strikers in Nolito and Rodrigo.

AFP: Everton's Cahill ruled out of Australia squad
** This is good news. He desperately needs the rest. Medical staff already stated that he played through pain against Liverpool. I know Australia need him, but if they can't beat Oman and Malaysia without him, they don't deserve to be in the World Cup.

Liverpool chairman Tom Werner rules out ground share with Everton - MirrorFootball.co.uk
** Seems like there is no chance for this to happen anymore. I never was a huge fan of groundsharing, but it would have been nice to have the option if we really could do nothing else. But it seems like Liverpool will never do this.

And some very exciting news, since we haven't added someone to our club in what seems like 10 years:

BBC Sport - Everton sign Bradford's George Green, 15, in reported £2m deal
Everton pay a reported fee of £2m to sign 15-year-old midfielder George Green from Bradford City.

** This is a pretty huge some for a young player. The inital fee is around £300,000 or so that can rise to the £2 million. A lot of big time clubs were after Green so it looks like he was highly rated by everyone. Still seems like a big gamble given the uncertainty and the age of Green.

ToffeeLinks 5/9/11: An already small squad gets smaller

Photo

It probably should have been posted earlier, but If you want a look at Everton and other Premier League club's 25-man squads, you can find it here. Everton named an extremely small squad of only 18 players (even though that doesn't include under-21 players). This was already threadbare, but now it seems like we are down one more.

Fenerbahce & Everton agree Joseph Yobo loan extension - Goal.com
Joseph Yobo has finally been loaned out to Fenerbahce. I think if he was willing to play, I would have much rather seen him on the squad. It seems that he was quite adamant in leaving, though. This brings our squad number (not including under-21's to just 17 players). Time to start praying for no more injuries. This move saves us about £2 million in wages.

Crisis hit Everton left sweating over Anichebe injury | tribalfootball.com
Looks like Anichebe has once again picked up a groin injury. It doesn't look like he will be able to play this Saturday. Even though I despise watching him play up front, he was one of only two strikers with extensive Premier League experience for us. And the injuries begin...

ToffeeLinks: Blue Monday Edition

LIVERPOOL, ENGLAND - AUGUST 05: Louis Saha of Everton in action during the pre season friendly match between Everton and Villarreal at Goodison Park on August 5, 2011 in Liverpool, England. (Photo by Clive Brunskill/Getty Images)

It was a pretty boring weekend for Everton, no games, no new players, and no players sold. Of course now everyones attention turns to the QPR match this Saturday.

In case you missed it, the first episode of our podcast is up on the site, here is the link in case you missed it.

Apparently we are also in the hunt for Spaniard Pedro Leon along with Aston Villa and Fulham. I really wonder what the requirement is for being able to publish a rumor. The asking price is 9 million pounds, and we don't even have 1 million to buy anyone. No truth to this but it is always funny to read such crazy rumors.

ToffeeLinks 10/08/2011: And the Everton Injury List Begins

As the beginning of the Premier League gets closer and closer, more and more ridiculous things are being published in media outlets. That's not to say that generally ridiculous things aren't happening in London right now (riots going on without any purpose or reason?).

The riots have put a severe damper on the start of the Premier League and Everton's campaign, not only because the first match may be pushed back, but because people are losing their possessions, their businesses, and their general peace of mind. Since it is being covered by every news outlet, I will try to keep it at a minimum, at least for this edition of ToffeeLinks.

First and foremost, my perfect fairy tale fantasy of most of our players being uninjured for the season has already taken a huge damper due to the devil (aka Carlos Marchena). It seems that Coleman will most definitely miss his first game back from suspension and probably even more. And so the Everton injury list begins.

Seamus Coleman out for six weeks | The Sun
It seems that the general consensus is that Coleman will be missing around six weeks to 8 weeks after he tore his ankle ligament. He has yet to see a specialist in London to know the exact details of his recuperation time, but things don't look too optimistic here.

More links after the jump.

ToffeeLinks 8/8/2011: It's Baaacckkkk!

(This video has nothing to do with Toffeelinks coming back other than the fact that its title is "We're Back")

ToffeeLinks was on a short hiatus due to Everton having the most depressing off-season known to man. For my own mental well-being as well as the readers', we decided to recharge our batteries, shutdown the engines, and get ourselves back to neutral (yup, I just quoted Wedding Crashers).

So why have we brought back ToffeeLinks before the season has started? Because there is actually news and information other than Bily getting married and Coleman starting a cucumber farm so he can produce homemade pickles/gherkins (I made the second one up).

Without further ado, your links!

...after the jump that is.
