Tuesday saw manager David Moyes collect the ninth manager of the month award of his Everton career and Alex Fitzgerald is full of praise for the Toffees boss....
David Moyes collected his well deserved Manager of the month award on Tuesday. The award is given to the recipient who has “managed his team to a record success with their club, has been outstanding through the given month or that has over-achieved with his team”. The latter of the three seems to be David's forte as he musters the right chemistry and drive within the team month after month.
Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas and West Brom’s Steve Clarke were among the other contenders, with Clarke’s Baggies actually overcoming Everton at the very start of the month.
However, I think it is the style of the following results, particularly the 3-0 thumping of Swansea ,that has caught the eye. Everton were always seen as a hard working committed side but have transformed themselves into the league’s entertainers, fashioning more shots on goal than any other side in any of Europe’s major leagues so far this season. They have also made their best start for eight years and raised hope of a sustained challenge for the European places.
The recipient of the award is selected by a panel assembled by the league’s sponsor and is awarded alongside the player of the month who this month was Sunderland's Steven Fletcher.
This is the ninth time David Moyes has picked up the gong, placing him in illustrious company. Only Arsenal's Arsene Wenger (12) and Manchester United's Sir Alex Ferguson (26) have won more. Though by measuring awards to season's managed, Moyes is in second place.
This award also proves that along with his team, Moyes can punch above his weight time and time again. He brings the best out of his players and is loved (largely) by the fans.
The question I would leave you fans with is, given Everton’s tight financial circumstances? Is there a better manager we could have than David Moyes?
He manages somehow to bring cheap players in (in most transfer windows) and brings them from what they were to what Moyes and the team needs them to be. He is also a fantastic man manager as I'm sure most of the Everton players will tell you and copes tremendously well under pressure and adversity. We’re lucky to have him.
In Moyes we trust!
