ToffeeLinks 5/9/11: An already small squad gets smaller

Photo

It probably should have been posted earlier, but If you want a look at Everton and other Premier League club's 25-man squads, you can find it here. Everton named an extremely small squad of only 18 players (even though that doesn't include under-21 players). This was already threadbare, but now it seems like we are down one more.

Fenerbahce & Everton agree Joseph Yobo loan extension - Goal.com
Joseph Yobo has finally been loaned out to Fenerbahce. I think if he was willing to play, I would have much rather seen him on the squad. It seems that he was quite adamant in leaving, though. This brings our squad number (not including under-21's to just 17 players). Time to start praying for no more injuries. This move saves us about £2 million in wages.

Crisis hit Everton left sweating over Anichebe injury | tribalfootball.com
Looks like Anichebe has once again picked up a groin injury. It doesn't look like he will be able to play this Saturday. Even though I despise watching him play up front, he was one of only two strikers with extensive Premier League experience for us. And the injuries begin...

Everton rejected Bendtner chance - Fansfc
I don't know how much truth there is to this story, but supposedly we were offered Bendtner plus cash, but we turned it down. I think we got this one correct. Bendtner is one hell of a talent and should have been on the cheap, but he is such a headcase that he probably still wanted top wages.

The inside track on how Everton FC new-boys Royston Drenthe and Denis Stracqualursi - Liverpool Echo
A pretty good article if you want to read up on Drenthe and Strac and how they fit in with Everton.

I think this is the season for me

He [Arteta] is a great player. He's a good lad as well. He will be a miss but we've got a lot of young players who can fill in.

- Jack Rodwell via FansFC.com

It is a big opportunity for me and I will do everything I can to help the team.

It is a pleasure to be here. It is a big club and I am very happy, I will fight as hard as I can to get in the team and play well.

I am a striker who plays in the penalty box. I am good at heading the ball and I am strong but I am also good with my feet. But I am here to get in the box and score goals.

- Denis Stracqualursi via SkySports.com

(Can we start calling him Denis the Menace if he's any good?)

Paper Thin and showing the cracks

Already reduced to 24 recognised first team players (and that includes the likes of Vellios, Baxter and Wallace plus the 2 new boys) Everton have now let Yobo go back to Turkey. With injuries to Gueye, Coleman (returning soon), Anichebe (probably) and Baines (also possibly a short term absence) the squad is, in Week 3 of the league season reduced to an absolute minimum – basically potentially just ELEVEN fit outfield players with significant first team experience at Everton. How worrying is that?
