Confusion reigns over Everton's Shane Long deal

Long: Not Goodison bound after all? (Photo by Alex Livesey/Getty Images)

The Premier League transfer merry-go-round moved up a gear on Wednesday as the big guns splashed their cash on young English (and many say over-priced) players.

For Everton it has largely been about players leaving, with Joseph Yobo and Yakubu set to follow James Vaughan out of the exit door. Yakubu has been linked with a return to Leicester in today's press, with a potential move to Turkey having broken down. Yobo's move to Turkey rests on negotiations between the club and Fenerbahce.

Star-divide

Johnny Heitinga isn't helping with his comments to the press, though in the Dutchman's defence I think he is being honest in interviews but that has simply given the journalists licence to twist his words into a sensationalist, disruptive story. He has said he is open to a move back to Ajax in order to play Champions League football, but the Dutch club claim they won't sign him as he is settled at Goodison.

As I said in the headline, confusion reigns!

Anyway, late last night rumours began to grow about a potential bid for Reading's Shane Long, a player thought to have been on Moyes' radar ever since Reading lost the play-off final against Swansea.

This article then appeared in the Irish press, suggesting Everton had won the race to sign the 24-year-old, though no price or quotes were mentioned. My theory is this has come from the Republic of Ireland squad, who were together for games against Macedonia and Italy this week. Maybe Seamus Coleman has put in a good word?

However, I did do some digging as I know someone with some contacts close the club. They got back to me with a quote from Nick Hammond, Reading director of football, who said no bids had been made for Long and that German giants Bayern Munich were interested.

Make of that what you will, there is so much confusion and rumour flying round at the moment it's slightly concerning to think we have to put up with this for another two months.

I don't have many Sibi!

But this guy is quite good with Reading stuff, so as long as we are going after their players I will be ok!
There has also been some whisperings about Charles N’Zogbia, though I thought he was set to Newcastle. We will be linked with hundreds of players before the end of August, it’s just so hard to sift through ones that have some substance and others that are complete and utter bulls**t!

At this point...

I just hope the rumor mill overheats and shuts down. I have a few trusted sources and unless it comes from them or the official site, I won’t by it. I think the Demba Ba thing is still ongoing. I don’t think talks have completely shut down, but there are sticking points. I also think it is going to be a long summer of Baines being linked to every big club in Europe with deep pockets. These rumors will all be crap as Baines is going nowhere. If I hear anything, I will be quick to hit it with a fanpost.

I think Erk Russell could have kicked Clint Eastwood and John Wayne's butts with a corn cob and one hand tied behind his back. GATA!

Good work AeroDawg

Though I don’t think the rumours will slow down, it will just get more and more hysterical until deadline day!!

No Doubt

I tend to swerve away from all the red hat tabloids and all their fodder. We will be linked wiht Messi before the window is closed. I have a few trusted people who pass me info from time to time, and I will share it when I can. Been lurking for a spell and this seems to be a pretty ace Everton site. Just want to share what I can when I can for the faithful in blue. BTW, has anyone seen the pics of TImmy Cahill in the new home strip? Looks nice. Not sure what the release date is, but I am much happier with the kits this year opposed to last.
