Going Nowhere: David Moyes is staying at Everton - for now at least.
Everton manager David Moyes has laughed off rumours linking him with the Everton job – but has also fired a warning shot to the club’s board.
Gerard Houllier is set to stand down from his post at Villa following health problems and Moyes was immediately linked with the post – which prompted Brian to write this blog on the subject.
However, Moyes has come out today and denied the rumours, telling the Liverpool Daily Post:
“As far as I know I’m here and I’m the manager.
“I want to have a club, though, where I can give the supporters something, I really do.
“I want a good fresh challenge when we come back next summer and hopefully that will be the case.”
In the latter part of his statement Moyes is clearly appealing to the board to give him the funds required to do his job properly. He has shown in the past that he gets the best value from money possible with the little cash he does have to spend so it is time for Bill Kenwright and co to fulfil their side of the bargain.
Otherwise I think the time will soon come when Moyes does decide to walk out on Everton. His loyalty and good will towards the club will only last so long before cold, hard ambition comes to the fore. And if he does decide to leave who would blame him?
Bill Kenwright, Robert Elstone, it's over to you.
